Our u20s development team lost 3-0 to Hearts on Monday night at Ochilview.
‘Keeper Remi Matthews made his comeback since suffering a shoulder injury at home to Inverness CT in the Premiership back on 1st October, whilst u20s skipper Shaun Want also made his comeback after 6 weeks out with a broken nose. Craig Watson got another 90 minutes under his belt too following his long spell out with cruciate ligament damage.
We began the game well and had several pretty decent chances in the opening 20 minutes or so, but we then seemed to fall by the wayside as Hearts more than came back into it. A dangerous low cross from the left was turned past Matthews by Rico Quitongo for an own goal in the 29th minute, the defender couldn’t get out the way in attemtping to clear. Andy Irving added a nice second after several mis-placed passes and tackles just before half time.
Rory Currie completed the sccoring for the Hearts youngsters five minutes from time.
We had Steven Boyd, Lewis Ferguson and Jack Breslin all cautioned.
Compared to last season’s 4-0 win away to Hearts, probably our best performance of the season, this one was best forgotten.
Accies: Matthews, Breslin, Quitongo (Smith 78 ), Want (c), McGregor, Watson, Cunningham (Ferguson 61), Hughes, Tierney, S Boyd, Kelly (McKirdy 57). Unused subs O’Halloran, J Boyd, S Connelly, Marshall.
Referee: Lorraine Clark. Att: 175
Next up for the u20s is at home to Dundee next Tuesday, 24th January, 7pm here at The SuperSeal Stadium.
