On Tuesday 19th December our u20s won 4-1 away to Partick Thistle in the Development League. The match was at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.
With a young team again, and all u17s on the bench, we saw early chances for Marc Kelly and Lewis Ferguson, before skipper Shaun Want headed us into the lead after good work by Leon McCann and Ross Cunningham.
100 seconds into the second half we doubled our lead when Lewis Smith scored after exquisite footwork by Kelly. In 52′ we went 3-0 up, this time Ryan Tierney and Kelly set up Jamie Boyd on the right who crossed deep for Ferguson to powerfully send a header downwards and into the net.
Ryan Fulton pulled off a couple of saves for us before Kelly and Tierney had shots blocked. Then in the 77th minute young sub Niyah Joseph knocked the ball in at the back post from Ross Cunningham’s corner to put us 4-0 up. Thistle got a consolation in the 88th minute when McLaughlin chipped the ball beyond Fulton.
A good and convincing performance from everyone.
