Web reporter Mark Gillespie spoke with Dougie Imrie after the game
Accies Captain Dougie Imrie shared his disappointment after losing 1-0 at Dens Park…..
A tough old day Dougie?
“Yes, it was disappointing. There was obviously a chance to get a point out of the game there and I’m bitterly disappointed to miss the penalty. I thought the guys were excellent in the second half, but in the first half we lost a poor goal. It took a wee deflection off my shin and fell right for the boy Holt and it was a fair finish for him. I thought that the effort we put into the second half was fantastic, and obviously I have to hold my hand up for the penalty.”
It was your quick thinking that led to the penalty wasn’t it?
“It doesn’t matter now as I didn’t score it from twelve yards. These things happen, and we’ll go again on Tuesday night against St. Johnstone.”
Did you change your technique?
“No, it was just a poor penalty kick. These things happen I suppose.”
Will you keep taking the them?
“Of course I will. If I’m asked to take them, I’ll keep taking them. That was one penalty, I’ve scored seven this season. For my own part I’m disappointed and as I said earlier I thought that we were excellent in the second half. First half we were good in spells as Dundee put pressure on us as you’d expect from the home team. We didn’t allow them many chances and during the game they had one chance and they scored from it. We are disappointed with that as we could and should have defended better for that. Like I said, it took a deflection off me and Kevin Holt has scored.”
How do you find the situation that your now in?
“In exactly the same position we were in before, three points ahead of the other two. Exactly the same.”
It’s not a bad position.
“Aye, I’d rather be in our position than in theirs.”
Do you think that one win will do it?
“Well, if we win and one of the others wins, they’ll need something like a swing of thirteen goals. If we can win on Tuesday night, then I think that’s us. It’s in our own hands and if we win on Tuesday we’ll be in the Premiership for another year. But I’m bitterly disappointed, if I’d scored that penalty with four minutes to go, we’d have got a point and we’d be there. We’re now in a position where we can secure it with a win on Tuesday.”
Is it a good thing that you’ve got the game coming up so quickly?
“Yes, but every game is difficult. Everyone else is in the same situation, the other sides have to go out and win on Tuesday too. It’s still there to play for to stay in this league and I’d rather be in our position than in theirs.”
You wouldn’t want to give them a sniff by going to the last day though?
“Certainly not, we’ve got two games against the top two sides in the bottom six. We’ve got to try and get a result on Tuesday but it won’t be easy that’s for sure. They’re both good teams and Motherwell find themselves in the Scottish Cup Final, so they’ll be fighting for places in that. We’ve got to now rest and recuperate, get in to work tomorrow (Sunday) and work hard to go again Tuesday. If we can play like we did in the second half then I think we’ll be okay, but I’m under no illusion that it wont be anything other than a difficult game.”
